LORETTA JOHNSON

Loretta Johnson Beloved Sister, Aunt, Friend, and Woman of Faith Loretta Johnson peacefully transitioned from labor to reward on June 30, 2026, at the age of 77, following a long and courageous illness. Though our hearts are heavy with her passing, we rejoice knowing she has entered into the eternal presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Loretta was born on November 3, 1948, in Beckley, West Virginia, to the late Woodrow and Rosie (Moore) Johnson. She was the seventh of nine children and was raised in a loving, Christ-centered home where faith, prayer, compassion, and unconditional love were the foundation of family life. Her parents instilled in each of their children an unwavering trust in God and a commitment to living with integrity, kindness, and humility. Those values became the guiding principles by which Loretta lived throughout her life. Accepting Christ at an early age, Loretta remained steadfast in her faith and unwavering in her devotion to God. She was a woman of quiet strength, deep conviction, and genuine authenticity. Never afraid to speak the truth with love and sincerity, she possessed a spirit marked by wisdom, resilience, and grace. Her faith carried her through life's joys and challenges, and her life became a beautiful testimony of God's sustaining love and faithfulness. Loretta graduated from Stratton High School in Beckley, West Virginia, in 1967. Shortly thereafter, she relocated to the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area to be closer to several of her siblings. She enjoyed a long and dedicated professional career, first with the Social Security Administration and later with Blue Cross Blue Shield, faithfully serving until her retirement in the early 2000s. She was known for her dependability, professionalism, and quiet dedication to every responsibility entrusted to her. During her retirement, Loretta embraced a peaceful and fulfilling life centered on her faith, family, and cherished friendships. She was a faithful member of Woodstream Church, where she found spiritual nourishment, lasting fellowship, and a loving church family. She was also a devoted participant in the Titus II Ministry, where she enjoyed growing in God's Word alongside other women of faith while offering encouragement, compassion, and friendship to those around her. Her church family became an extension of her own, faithfully surrounding her with love, prayer, and support throughout the years. Loretta was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Woodrow and Rosie Johnson; her brothers, Charles and Jerry Johnson; and her sisters, Dorothy, Norma Jean, Floretta Roye, and Estelle Johnson. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving sister, Annie Johnson of Bowie, Maryland; her brother, Steven Johnson of District Heights, Maryland; her nephew, David Johnson of Denver, Colorado; a host of beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; her treasured Woodstream Church family; and dear friends Gary McKethan, Dr. Tanna Jackson, Jeanette Darden, Knakia Nelson, Charnita Dawtin, and Belinda Young along with countless others whose lives were blessed by her friendship, kindness, and unwavering faith. Although Loretta lived a life marked by humility and simplicity, the impact she made on those around her was profound. She leaves behind a legacy of unwavering faith, steadfast character, quiet strength, and unconditional love. Her gentle spirit, sincere heart, and enduring trust in God will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. While she will be deeply missed, her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she loved and those who loved her.
