Mr. Jerome Allen Dent

On Sunday, June 23, 2024, Jerome Allen Dent departed this life at his home in Laurel, Maryland. Jerome fondly known as "Jack" was born to the late Barbara Elizabeth Dent in Washington, D.C. Jack was educated in Prince George's County Public Schools having attended Brooks Lane Elementary, Mary McLeod Bethune Middle, and Fairmont Heights High Schools. Jerome was a committed and dedicated worker. He worked for Prince George's County Public Schools as a custodian for forty-three years at Suitland High School until his retirement ni 2009. Jack dedicated his life to Christ at an early age, while a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, now Westphalia United Methodist Church. He was a faithful and supportive member and loved his church and its members. He may have had "Knottie Head" on Saturday night, but on Sunday morning, he was in church. You would see Jack and his mother walking to church every Sunday. Jack left no doubt that he loved the Lord. Jack was a member of the men's choir and was active in the church until he moved to Beltsville with his brother and sister-in-law in 2003. Jerome actively attended Bibleway Christian Community Church until he was unable to do so. Jack was an avid Washington Redskins (Commanders) fan, and would proudly wear a jersey supporting his team. His other love of sports was watching baseball, and he would bet his brother $20 on the World Series game. Only $20? Well if you knew Jack he was holding tightly to a dollar and $20 was his limit. Jack was a loving and devoted, brother, uncle, great uncle, cousin, and friend. Jack would give you the shirt off his back and loan you no more than $20. He loved watching game shows and the stories. During his younger years, Jack would play horseshoes. Let us not forget his favorite pastime, sitting in the yard keeping watch!! Jack had the opportunity to travel and vacation with his family, going ot Virginia, Florida, the Bahamas, and Puerto Rico. He truly loved spending time with his family. Although a man of few words, Jack had an infectious smile and personality. He was a kind and gentle soul loved by everyone that knew him. Family gatherings were a favorite of Jack's, especially during the holidays and he was always willing to attend a good cookout. He was the life of the party and would stay on the dance floor with or without a partner. Jerome was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara E. Dent; his brother, Gregory H. Dent; leaves to cherish his memory: Two brothers: Eric Dent (Eva), and Daryl Dent (Sharon); Three cousins grew up in the same house with him: Kevin Burks, Kerry Burks (Shandora), and Karen Clark (Marlon). Three nephews, Maurice Jones Jr. (Melanie), Eric Dent Jr., and Daryl Dent Jr. (Andrea), One niece, Zakia Dent; One great nephew; Maurice Jones III, and a great-niece: Zandra Dent, and a host of other relatives and friends.
