Mrs. Carolyn Theresa Green

Carolyn Theresa Green was the ninth of thirteen children, born in Newport Maryland on May 26, 1946 to the late Robert V. Powell Sr. and Viola C. Powell (Yates). She attended school in Charles County MD, her first 11 years were at Bel Alton High School, in her last year 1965 she graduated from La Plata High School, she was in the 1st integrated graduating class in Charles County MD. After graduating, Carolyn moved to Washington, DC and was employed at the United States Postal Service until she retired. This is where she met the love of her life William (Bill) Green Sr., of 50 years they were married on June 6, 1970. From their union they shared 2 loving sons William (Billy) Green Jr, Shawn Green and a loving daughter Yolanda Green. They were her pride and joy along with her 8 loving grandchildren; Ariana, Deon, Shawn, JoVaughn, Damari, Neveah, Mekhi and Jaylen. Carolyn was an exceptionally compassionate and a good person. She always had a smile on her face, she loved helping people in her community especially the elderly. Whether it be taking them to their doctor’s appointments or just going to the grocery store everyone knew her and she loved talking with everyone even strangers. You could always call on her and if she could find a way to help, she would. Carolyn loved all her sisters, but she would talk to Gladys, Bernadette and Catherine at least 6 times a day she would call them to let them know what was on sale at the stores or call to get the lottery number. They would always let each other know where they were every day of the week. If she couldn’t get in touch with one, she would call the other. Carolyn was also very competitive whether it be playing cards, volleyball her team had to win, and she didn’t hesitate to tell someone they were cheating (she would call you out). She loved to bowl and was a member of numerous bowling leagues (Friday Morning Mix and Tuesday Morning Mix), she loved to dance and was a Washington Football Team fan. She liked to visit her sidekicks Shirley (Ann) and Kitt in Henderson, NC. Whenever there were family get togethers, she was always the first to arrive along with her best friends Brenda Moore and Mamie Minor (three amigos). In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters: Rose Woodland; Helen Mathis; Barbara Jean Powell; brothers; James Powell and John Powell; nieces; Mary (Kattie) Anderson; Mary (Kitty) Gyant; brother in laws; Edward Mathis and John Hampton; nephews; Phillip Yates; Joseph Yates (Joe Joe); Andre Yates and Anthony Mathis. Left to cherish her precious memories: a loving husband William Green Sr; sons William Green Jr (Jacquell); Shawn Green (Shanequa); Yolanda Green (Adrian); granddaughters; Ariana Green; Neveah Green; grandsons; Deon Giles; Shawn Green Jr; JoVaughn Green; Damari Giles; Mekhi Green and Jaylen Green; sisters Frances (Betty) Drew; Ida Walton; Madeline Thompson; Gladys Johns; Annette Ensley; Catherine Posey and Bernadette Hampton; brother Robert V. Powell Jr (Dorothy); brother in laws; Rudolph Posey and James Johns Jr; Daniel Green; Eugene Green and Dennis Green; sister in laws Marlene Green; Shirley Robinson; Mary Ann Green, Sharon Dodson and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
