YVETTE EVELYN SIMMS

Miss Yvette E. Simms of Washington D.C. was suddenly ushered by the Lord into her heavenly home on December 27, 2024. She was born to the late Joeann Mickle and the late Charles Allen on March 5, 1943. Yvette attended D.C. public schools and graduated from Margaret Murray Washington Vocational High School. After 33 plus years of service, Yvette retired as a paralegal specialist from the Department of Commerce, primarily working in the Patent & Trademark Office. Yvette was a champion bowler, avid reader, and wonderful cook (her famous pasta salad, corn casserole, and peach cobbler will be missed). She enjoyed eating crabs, playing cards and jacks. She loved to travel, and especially enjoyed sitting at the beach. She had a great sense of humor and an even greater sense of style. Anyone that knows her knew she was a bit spicy. Growing up, all she had to do was squint her eyes and we knew to straighten up. One thing we can say about her is that she was very detailed and organized, a historian, and could tell you how to get around the entire DMV area. From childhood, Yvette was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and has been a faithful servant for most of her life. She was a member of both the Garfield and Ft. Davis congregations. Yvette is survived by her daughter Tanya Sanders and son Damian Simms, her grandchildren Andre K. Sanders, Tia N. Sanders, Darryl D. Ellis and Asia D. Simms, 3 bonus grands Jenae Johnson, Jada and Avianna Sanders, a host of great-grands Savian D. Sanders, Darryl D. Ellis Jr., Damian D. Ellis, Zuri A. Ellis, and JaMiyaa R. Johnson. Siblings Andre D. Mickle (Diana), Albert Mickle (Lefran), Dr. Cathy Griffin Famble (Raymond), Michael D. Allen, and Donna D. Allen. She was preceded in death by her sons Robert T. Simms and Darryl W. Simms, her mother Joeann Mickle and her father Charles Allen, as well as her siblings Gloria Brunson, Sylvester Mickle, Bettye Walton (Bill), and Alfreda Ferguson (Richard). She was like a big sister to her siblings-in-love Lorraine Neal, Vera Vaughns, Bettina McClendon, and Ricky Simms. She leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many dear friends.
