Willie Glasco Mauldin

Willie Glasco Mauldin was born on March 5, 1937 in Greensboro, Alabama to the late Jimmie Lee Mauldin and Gladys Wilson Mauldin. After completing his high school education, he enlisted in the United States Army doing most of his service tour in Germany. Willie received an honorable discharge on January 31, 1962. Upon his return to Alabama, he married Ethel Lois Croom and they relocated to Washington, DC. They were blessed with 3 daughters - Deborah, Barbara, and Michelle. Willie had a long and fulfilling Federal career. He spent many years in his last job with the Department of Defense working for the US Army Corps of Engineers as an Information Management Specialist. He retired with 41 1⁄2 years and was free to enjoy time with family and friends. His work ethic was impeccable and he followed that in all he did whether work, school, church, or just day to day life. Willie joined Rehoboth Baptist Church on May 7, 1970 and remained a loyal and faithful member until his passing, showing continuous commitment and support of the church and Pastor. Over the years, Willie worked with the Men's Ministry, the Pastor's Aid Society, the Culinary Crew, and numerous church committees often serving in the role as Financial Chairperson. In his spare time, Willie loved to cook, read, watch sports, play cards, and go fishing when he could. But his all-time favorite was simply spending time with loved ones and friends, just talking and helping out however he could. He lived his life with kindness and compassion for all. Willie was called home on November 17, 2022 at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie and Gladys Mauldin; his stepmother, Johnnie Mauldin; his stepbrother, Ernest Mauldin; and his daughter, Deborah Jean Mauldin. Willie leaves to cherish his precious memory: his wife of 63 years, Ethel; two daughters, Barbara Butler (Curtis) and Michelle Hamilton (Christopher); three grandchildren, Michael, Derric and Cydney; one great grandchild, GaLisa; two great-great grandchildren, Acesen and Azari; two brothers, Jimmie and Kent Mauldin; his stepsister Deborah Williams (of Arizona); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends. Willie was a truly devoted and loving son, husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend. As he looks down on us now from his heavenly home, may we always remember his example and reflect on his love of life, pleasant smile, belief in family, and faith in a loving God.
