Mr. Vondal Maurice Magby

LIFE'S JOURNEY A Time to Depart- Deacon Vondal M. Magby answered the call of the Almighty God and departed this earthly tabernacle on February 10, 2026, at his residence, where he felt the most loved and cared for. A Time to be Born- Vondal was born in Widen, West Virginia on May 30, 1954 to Shirley Bego-Magby and the late David Magby. He was the second of five children. A Time to Learn- Vondal spent his earlier years in West Virginia until he became a teenager. He was educated in the Washington D.C. public School System, where he received his High School Diploma from Spingarn High School. He received further technical schooling from his job. A Time to Love- Vondal met the love of his life, Valerie Gavins, in 1978, outside of his job (C&P Telephone Co.). In 1981, they became inseparable and married in August, 1985. Their marriage spanned over 40 years. They raised two children, Vonnetta Magby-Bost and Richard Magby. And helped to raise ten other children who needed a place or simply love. A Time to Commit- Vondal accepted Christ in his early twenties and was baptized in Washington D.C. He joined Corinthian Baptist Church in 2009, under the leadership of Bishop James Martin. Vondal's career with C&P Telephone, Bell Atlantic and Verizon lasted 30 years. He retired as a Software Engineer. He then went on to work for the Dept. of Defense for 7 years, before retiring for good in 2014. A Time to Serve- Vondal became a member of the Men's Choir, Honorary Missionary and Deacon at Corinthian Baptist Church. His service to others was the rent he paid for being alive. A Time to enjoy- Vondal loved his family, his Wife, Moma, children, and especially his grandsons, Jalen, Dylan and Niko. He was so very thankful to spend time with them each separately. They always tried to make Vondal comfortable in any way they could. Vondal loved traveling when he could, his last vacation was in Hollywood, CA. His most true passion was golf. He was an advid and superb golf player, with many trophies to admire. He was a dedicated member of the Telephone Co. Golf Team as well as his Childhood friends Golf Team. A Time to Memorialize- Vondal was preceded in death by his dad, David Magby, Sr., his brother, Michael Magby. He leaves to cherish his memory his Mom, Shirley Jackson (Edward), one daughter, Vonnetta of Hyattsville, MD, one son, Richard of Forestville, MD, three grandsons, Jalen, Dylan, Niko of Hyattsville, MD, one brother, David Magby of Suitland, MD, two sisters, Marietta Queen (Greg) of Suitland, MD, Lisa Magby of Charleston, West Virginia, two Godchildren, Shelbi and Sydnei Fluharty, his buddy, Bruce, and his lifelong friends, Andre, Johnny, Neil, Rick, Norman, Adrian. And a host of family and friends.
