NINA WALKER BODDIE

Nina was born on February 26, 1934 in Augusta, Georgia to loving parents David B. Walker and Annie Laura Brown Walker. She was the oldest of seven children, four girls and three boys. Her parents and siblings John Walker, Jesse Walker, and Doreen Walker-Washington as well as nephew Eric Smith and niece Corliss Walker preceded her in death. As the oldest of her siblings, Nina was often responsible for taking care of the house and her younger brothers and sisters. She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1951. She attended Albany State College and graduated in 1955. Upon graduation, she became an elementary school teacher in Augusta, Georgia and taught in Georgia for five years until her father encouraged her to seek employment out of state for a better salary. She eventually moved to Washington, D.C. in the early 1960s, and began teaching in DC Public Schools. It was in Washington, D.C. that she met Odell Gregory Boddie, the love of her life and wonderful father to their sons, Kevin Gregory Boddie and David Odell Boddie. Nina and Odell were married on September 12, 1965 at St. Luke's Catholic Church. In 1969, Nina and Odell purchased their forever home in District Heights, Maryland. At the same time, she joined St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church. After the loss of her husband Odell in 1978, Nina continued her career in DC Public Schools as well as taking care of her baby sister Doreen while raising her sons on her own. She finally retired in 1991 with over 30 years in education. She spent the majority of her career teaching at Plummer Elementary School and Hugh M. Browne Junior High School, now known as Browne Education Campus. In her retirement, Nina continued to work in education as a Resource Teacher for Sylvan Learning Center and used her personal experience and contacts to help others enter the field of education. She remained active in her faith community, eventually serving as Treasurer of the Ladies of Charity. Despite numerous health conditions in her later years, Nina continued to be a loving parent and grandmother to her sons and grandchildren, always offering love, support, and assistance. Nina was a leader of many faces - teacher, mentor, mother, comforter, and provider. She sacrificed greatly in life for her family and friends. She passed away on February 23, 2026 at 7:12 p.m., having heard from all she loved and with both sons at her side. She will be sorely missed but forever revered for her faith, love, wisdom, and strength. Nina leaves to cherish a sister-in-law Elizabeth Walker of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; brother-in-law Michael Washington of West Palm Beach, Florida; siblings Dorothea Smith of Los Angeles, California, and Anne Walker and Eddie Walker of Augusta, Georgia; nephew John Kendall Walker of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Michelle Brown of Los Angeles, California; son Kevin Boddie and daughter-in-law Erika Stephens-Boddie of York, South Carolina; son David Boddie and daughter-in-law Monica Boddie of Hyattsville, Maryland; and grandchildren Zuri Boddie, Xavier Boddie, Gibran Boddie, Jibril Boddie, Kinayah Boddie, and Khaydun Boddie.
