Mr. Nelson Jones

Nelson Jones was born on February 2, 1927 to John Baptist and Ora Lee Jones in Wilson, North Carolina. Through that union, Billy, John, Nelson, Pete, Roberta and Sally were born. Nelson migrated from North Carolina to Washington, DC. He served in the Armed Forces and received an honorable discharge. Afterwards, he started a career with the Government Printing Office and he met the love of his life, Edna Murchison. The two entered into holy matrimony and to this union were born a son, Michael Nelson and daughter, Myrna Renee. The two were simply inseparable after more than 60 years of marriage! They demonstrated incredible faith in God through their dedication to their family and especially to their son Michael who transitioned to Heaven in 1988. Nelson continued his career at Giant Foods, where he received many accolades for outstanding service and character. He owned his own taxi cab and was very knowledgeable of how to navigate throughout the city. He retired from Giant Foods after more than 30 years of service. After which, he and Edna dedicated their time caring for their granddaughter, Tiphani. He took her on his daily walks and she was certainly the apple of his eye. He always lit up like a Christmas tree every time he saw her. A special and eternal bond was formed between them. Nelson and Edna have always been a couple grounded in faith. They were members of Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church and would later join From the Heart Church Ministries where he was a faithful, tithing member who served on the Parking and Grounds Ministry until his health began to fail him. Nelson spent most of his days reading the Bible and found joy and peace in quoting Scripture and watching the services via live stream. He had many friends and was very loved in the neighborhood where he lived. He was known for helping maintain yards of widows and others who needed help. He was best known for his Nat King Cole look and for having perfect wavy hair. Nelson will be missed by all who knew and loved him. We know the angels are rejoicing because he is now in his Heavenly home with his Heavenly Father. Nelson is survived by his wife, Edna Jones, his daughter Myrna Jackson, son-in-law, Carlton, granddaughter, Tiphani Jackson, a host of nephews, nieces other relatives and friends.
