Mrs. Melva Felicia Brittingham

Melva Felicia Brittingham, 69, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 16, 2021, in Clinton, MD. Melva was the wife of Kevin B. Brittingham. They shared 39 memorable years of marriage! She was always proud of her nickname “Prety” that Kevin had given her early in their relationship. Melva "really" loved making Kevin happy. Melva was born and raised in Washington, DC, where she received her education in the DC school system. She was the daughter of Harry R. and Lillian Bowman. Melva attended D.C.Teachers, P.G.Community College, and Eastern Gateway Community College. She had recently been inducted into the Honors Society and was consistent on the dean's list. She received countless opportunities to extend her education at a fouryear degree college! Melva was very excited about where she was heading in her educational pursuits! She worked at the Department of Treasury, the Secret Service, and retired from FDIC in September of 1998. As a proud member of First Baptist Church of District Heights for 25 plus years, she served as the Care and Comfort Committee leader, planning funerals, comforting families, and ministering to the bereaved families. Melva adored singing and was a proud member of the Gospel Choir, Worship Team, the Baptism Ministry. She always rejoiced attending the Ladies Sunday school classes and Discipleship classes. Melva relished playing spades with family and friends, playing poker with her family, watching Home and Garden TV and British murder mysteries, collecting angels, traveling with family during vacations, watching old movies, talking to her "baby brother," family members, and friends, going shopping with Melissa and Mila, spending time with Melvin, and spending quality time with Kevin. She will be remembered for making a friend wherever she went, being excited about Mila, all of her unique sayings, her constant praying, always giving advice, and sharing kind words. Melva had a passion for creating experiences with and getting to know her children's friends and loved taking care of so many people! She cherished gospel music; “Prety” wrote and composed a song of her own. Writing poetry was one of her many passions, which Melva wrote and published a book of poetry. Although she had to use her walker, Melva enjoyed walking with Kevin, Melissa, and Mila during the summer. You could find her in the middle of the day and night playing Candy Crush after doing her school assignments! Melva not only loved dressing up and looking good for special occasions, but she also had an extensive purse collection and jewelry collection. You could tell she enjoyed shopping and spending money! Melva leaves to cherish her memory to her loving husband Kevin B. Brittingham, children Melvin and Melissa, granddaughter Mila, Brother Orvin Bowman (Vivian), sister in love Phylis Davis, Brother in love Saul Moore Sr., a host of nieces, nephews, many family members, and friends. She was preceded in death by sister Linda Rose Moore. Her viewing will be held on Wednesday, March 10, 2021, from 10 am to 11 am, and the Home Going service will be LiveStreamed from 11 am-12 pm at Pope Funeral Home at 5538 Marlboro Pike, Forestville, MD 20747.
