MR MAURICE LAVELL HARRIS

Maurice Harris passed away unexpectedly on May 19th, 2023; He was only 51 years old. Maurice was born on August 19, 1971, to the late Lawrence "Jakey" Fletcher and the late Sylvia Ann Harris at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. and is survived by his three children.... Maurice was preceded in death by his parents Jackey and Sylvia along with his brother Kenneth "Tony Goof" Harris, The apple of his eye, his grandmother Nellie Ford, aunt Patricia Ford-Redd, and cousins Kecia and Cocoa. "Jayco" as he was affectingly known was educated in the DC Public School system, Jayco enjoyed his life to the fullest and love to party. While on this road of enjoying life he became a farther to a baby boy, Delmar Wood. He began his career as a salesman at Morris Tiles Company while working there Jayco met the love of his life, Jasmine whom he married in 2001 and of that union his two daughters Maurshae and Jaylin were born. He and Jasmine later divorced. He loved working as a salesman until he began his career at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research as a Floor technician for 10 years until he decided he no longer wanted to work in the labor industry. In 2021 he began his career as a night staff duty clerk at Walter Reed where he remained until his untimely death. Maurice was a fun spirited soul who took on many passions. Jayco played football and basketball for the No. 2 Boys and Girls Club where he developed a passion for basketball (swearing he was Michael Jordan). He was a devoted Redskin fan and loved to talk trash while playing horseshoes and dominoes (bones). His passion was taking of care of his children. He had an incredible smile and if you had the pleasure of meeting him, it was immediately evident that his presence was a present! Maurice was a beautiful person inside and out. He cared so deeply for the people around him. He was extremely kind and enthusiastic. He made an impact on many lives. He will be forever missed. Maurice "Jayco Harris leaves to cherish his memories: son Delmar Wood, daughters Maurshae and Jaylin Harris, grandson Delmar Wood Jr, bonus kids-Keiara, Jovan, and Mikey. Nephews Antonio and Ayden, nieces Melony and Bianca, aunts Cynthia, Vivian and Miriam, cousins Chucky, Missy, Tasha, Drake, Neek, Zo, Moe, Quell, Daneka, lifetime THON friends, Michael Shaw, Corey, Bump, Troy, John, Tuffy, Tracey, Boothy, Bobby and Kunta and a host of relatives and friends.
