Ms. Madia Frances Terry

Madia Frances Finley Terry was born on February 21, 1942 in Bluefield, West Virginia to Melvin Finley and Ollie Briggs Finley. She had a fun time growing up with her cousins running around playing in the hills of West Virginia. While attending Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Frances gave her life to Christ at a young age. She later joined Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church, where she was a dedicated member using her gifts to serve. Frances was a dedicated Usher for 22 years, served on the Counting Committee for 20 years, and worked on the Kitchen Committee for 15 years. She loved the Lord and used her gifts and talents to labor for God's Kingdom. She attended public schools in Bluefield, WV and graduated from Park Central High School. She attended Bluefield State College (now Bluefield State University). After relocating to Maryland, Frances met the love of her life and married Alonzo Lee Terry on October 22, 1966. Lonnie and Frances were married for 31 years. In 1978, they joyfully welcomed a son, Mark Anthony. Over the years, Frances held careers in retail, banking, customer service, sales, and administration. Frances was an Avon Representative for several years and even after retiring, she worked at Target in her advanced senior years. Frances excelled in every endeavor and her work ethic was unparalleled. To meet Frances was to love her. She was kindhearted and had a sweet-spirited personality. Frances had an adorable laugh and always greeted everyone with a smile. She exhibited a quiet strength and consistently cared for those she loved. Frances enjoyed traveling, shopping trips, and spending time with family. She was a great cook and everyone looked forward to savoring one of her home cooked meals, experiencing her German Chocolate Cake, and enjoying her delicious peanut butter cookies. On May 25, 2007, Frances was blessed with a grandson. She found great pleasure being Mark Alonzo's "Grandma" and beamed whenever she spoke about him. He held a special place in her heart and that brought her much joy. She was preceded in death by her husband Alonzo Terry, parents Melvin and Ollie Finley, and brother Alfred Finley. Gone too soon, On January 11, 2024, Frances passed away.
