Lydia R. Timbers

Early Sunday, August 23, 2020, god extended his Almighty Hand taking our loved one Lydia R. Timbers, indicating her task of earth was done.She was born March 9,1921, to Lewis Riley and Susie Toler in Fauquier County, Virginia. There she received early education in Greenville, Virginia. Later she attended Manassas Industrial School and received her high school diploma. After graduation, she moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she reconnected with a former classmate, James C. Timbers, who she married in 1941. They had one daughter, Patricia born in 1945. While in Philadelphia she worked for over 25 years for the Federal Government where she started as a general clerk. During her time there she took advantage of all training offered going out of state for many classes. She also took classes at St. Joseph's university. She retired as supply commodity Management Officer. When her agency relocated to New Jersey, she took the option for early retirement. After Retirement, she worked for the city of Philadelphia, Presbyterian Hospital and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. She and her husband began buying, renovating and renting properties. When her husband became terminally ill in 1987, she went into complete retirement except for her real estate interests which she continued with her daughter and grandson in Maryland where she moved to in 1994. Raised Baptist, she converted to Catholicism in 1951, after enrolling her daughter in Catholic School for a better education. She was a devout Catholic and totally involved with St. Ignatius, her parish Church. After relocating to Maryland she joint St. Camilus Church and later Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. She was a person who loved: animals, puzzles (crossword and jigsaw), sewing, cooking, learning and reading. She enjoyed casino trips, but most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a devoted Mother and Grandmother to her only grandson, Thomas. Preceded in death by her sister and brother, she was supportive to her nieces and nephews. She was always a friend to those in need and donated religiously to numerous charities. She leaves to mourn her; daughter, Patricia Frye, grandson Thomas Frye, her lifetime cousin, Margaret Barkley, other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Services will be held on Tuesday, September 1,2020, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church 4902 Berywn Road College Park MD 20740 Viewing 11:00 am Service 12:00 pm Interment Private
