Ms. Lathan Ruth Langley

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lathan Ruth Langley, a beloved mother, friend, and community member, who transitioned on May 5, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on August 11, 1947, in Wilson, North Carolina, Lathan lived a life characterized by love, dedication, and unwavering support for those around her. Lathan was known for her warm spirit and generous heart. She dedicated many years of her life as a cafeteria worker for DC Public Schools, where she served nourishing meals and brightened the days of countless students and staff. Her commitment to caring for others extended beyond her work; Lathan was a treasured figure in her community, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a kind word. Lathan is survived by her devoted daughter, Valerie Langley-Cook, who carries her love and legacy forward. A funeral service to celebrate Lathan's life will be held Thursday May 22, 2025 at Alfred Street Baptist Church, providing an opportunity for family and friends to gather and reflect on the joyous moments she brought into their lives. Following the service, Lathan will be laid to rest with dignity and grace, embraced by the love she shared during her lifetime. In this time of sorrow, we honor Lathan's memory with gratitude for the love she gave and the lives she touched. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the compassion she demonstrated throughout her life. She leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience through her daughter, Valerie Langley-Cook (John Cook Sr.), and five grandchildren: Christopher (Desiree) Langley, Joshua (Taylor) Langley, Tempest Langley, John Cook II, and Taylor Cook. She is also survived by her beloved great-granddaughter, Taylor Rae Langley, all of the Washington, DC metropolitan area. She is mourned and remembered by her three sisters-Faye (Willie) Moore, Ethel Louise Langley, and Delois Jean Daniels, all of North Carolina; one uncle, KD Hester; and one aunt, CeWillie Hester (widow of the late Donald). Ruth was a devoted and nurturing mother and grandmother, a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews, and a cherished member of her extended family, church, and community.
