Karen Smith

A Celebration of Life and Laughter Karen Smith also known as “Kitty” devoted mother to Devon Riddick. She was the youngest of eight (8) born on December 27, 1963 to Patricia Smith and the late Harold Smith. She accepted her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ at an early age and continued her Spiritual walk on a daily basis. As a devout Catholic, she was baptized, received her First Communion and Confirmation at Assumption Catholic Church in Washington, D.C. Karen completed her education in the DC Public School system. She attended Johnson Jr. High and graduated from Ballou High School where she participated in the Marching Band and this is where she developed her love of music and dancing. Karen started her early career in sales and fashion as a Merchandise Associate at Woodward and Lothrop (Woodies) Department Store. She furthered her career in financial services as a Sales Associate with Citibank, NA, Branch Manager at SunTrust Bank, and the Events Coordinator at ICS Protective Services. Karen was a hardworking, fun loving, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She leaves a legacy of love, fun times (Club 55), party animal and the “Queen” of the Cabaret. She was also known for giving people personalized “tag names.” You knew she loved you if she adopted you as family. Karen enjoyed mentoring young adults, providing them with wisdom and life lessons. Her contagious smile, sense of humor caused others to be drawn to her and that gave her much joy. Let’s not forget she was the ultimate diehard “Redskins” fan. She leaves to cherish her memory: Her son, Devon “Burger” Riddick; her mother, Patricia Smith; siblings, Bernard (Penny) Smith, Paula Shipp, Paulette (Harold) Robinson, Sandra Smith, Robin Smith, Harold Keith Smith, and Tracey (Charles) Johnson. Karen’s most favorite people, her nieces and nephew, Jonae Sherrita (Derek “Bud”) Anderson, Rashad “Shad” Robinson, Rylan “Umma” Robinson, Charles “Swee-Chuck” Johnson, Mia “Beana” Shipp, Wesley “Wes-X” Smith, Kennedy “Pumpkin” Lambert; great nieces and nephews, Peyton “Twin”, Parker “Shady Boots” and Preston Anderson. She is also survived by a host of extended family and friends. Karen’s beautiful life will be remembered by all those who loved her. Services for Karen Smith will be held on Friday April 26, 2019 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help 1600 Morris Road SE Washington , DC 20020 Visitation to begin at 10:00 am and Service to follow at 11:00 am with the Interment at Maryland National Cemetery.
