Mrs Joyce Lynette Rodgers

Joyce Lynette Rodgers was born to the late James McRae, and Rosa Lee Martin at DC General Hospital in Washington, DC on December 17, 1955. She is the middle child of five. Joyce attended HD Cook elementary, Lincoln Junior High, and Cardozo High School where she received her high school diploma. Joyce left home after graduation to start her own life and family; giving birth to her first child, Cory J. McRae. Joyce started her career at the Hot Shoppes. She worked at Hot Shoppes for many years where she met and befriended her future sister in law Alfreda Rodgers. While working at Hot Shoppes, she gave birth to her second child, Lonnisha M. McRae. After Hot Shoppes she went to Howard Inn and worked there for three years before accepting a job at The Washington Hilton where she met her friend Shirley Reeves, and they became lifelong best friends. While out with Alfreda at a family function, she met the love of her life, Clarence Earl Rodgers I. After a few years of dating, Joyce married Earl on April 8, 1995. From this union she birthed her last child, Sean A. Rodgers. Joyce and Earl had an exciting life filled with laughter and bliss. They valued family and made them a priority. They purchased their first home two years after Sean was born. Joyce LOVED the Lord! She made sure her children attended Sunday School from a very young age. She was introduced to Tenth Street Baptist Church (TSBC) by Shirley in 1986. She became a member and brought her children along. Although, she had to work almost every Sunday, she still made sure her children had rides to church and were heavily involved in the youth ministry. Joyce rededicated her life to Christ in 2008 and rejoined the TSBC family. She also became a dedicated usher and was a member of the Senior Usher Board until her death. Traveling was one of Joyce's favorite things to do. She looked forward to every summer vacation. Her favorite vacation included a cruise ship. All you had to say was "Lets go!" And she was packed and ready! She loved to go on ski trips with friends as well. Joyce also loved to shop. She could visit 100 stores and still not be tired. Any function that included music, got Joyce on the dance floor. She loved to laugh and just wanted to have fun. She was a GIVER! If you asked, she gave. If you didn't ask, she gave. If you needed it, she gave it and if you didn't need it, she gave it just because she loved you. Our dear Joyce was as sweet as can be and greeted everyone with a big smile and a warm hug. Joyce peacefully transitioned on March 10, 2023 after a battle with congestive heart failure. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Earl Rodgers I, parents James McRae, and Rosa Lee Smith; her brothers Kenneth (Tina), Eldridge, and Dwayne. She leaves to mourn her death, her children Cory McRae, Lonnisha Scott (Yusef), Sean Rodgers, and stepson Clarence Earl Rodgers II (Rochelle); her grandchildren Cory, KeSean, Johnathon, Na'Veil, Isaiah, Zakairah, Genesis, Reagan, and Kaidence; her sisters, Barbara, Enola and Gloria (George); nieces, Teresa, Sherese, and Chantelle; her best friend Shirley Reeves, and God daughter Erika. Plus of host of relative and friends.
