BIOGRAPHY In Loving Memory of Mrs. Janie Thelma Dupree Brown Mrs. Janie Thelma Dupree-Brown was born on April 17, 1934, in the quiet little town of Blenheim, South Carolina, to the late Cal Sr. and Lennel Brown Dupree. On December 23, 1956, she married the late Jennings “Buddy” Brown Sr. Their loving union lasted 33 years until his passing in September 1989. This marriage blessed them with three children: Jeannette Davies, the late Jennings Brown Jr., and Mattie (Andrew Sr.). Together, Janie and “Buddy” built a home grounded in love, faith, and strength. Mrs. Janie Brown was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her quiet strength, gentle spirit, and loving heart left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. A woman of unwavering faith and dignity, Janie lived a life of service—always placing her family, faith, and community above herself. She was the proud grandmother of 8 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, as well as a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. Her love and guidance shaped generations, and her legacy will continue to live on through each of them. On August 5, 2025, Janie was called to eternal peace, with her family surrounding her. She entered into rest alongside those who passed before her, including: Her beloved husband, Jennings “Buddy” Brown Sr. Their son, Jennings Brown Jr. Her great-grandson, Keion Lee Brockington Her nephews — Amos Brown, Anthony Brown, Samuel Brown Jr., Edward Dupree, Ronald Brown and David Dupree Jr. Her nieces, Marilyn Dupree and Veldine Bailey Her great-niece, Coretta Dupree Two biological brothers, James “Pete” Brown-McKinnon and Sgt. Moses Dupree Three biological sisters, Clara Thompson, Rosa Morrison, and Mary Witherspoon Four sisters-in-law, Mary Alice Scott-Dupree, Nancy Mae Graves-Dupree, Elasteen Dupree, and Kay Frances Farewell-Dupree Mrs. Janie Thelma Brown-Dupree — affectionately known as “Sister” or Mrs. Brown — leaves behind a legacy of faith, strength, and unconditional love that will forever remain in the hearts of all whose lives she touched. Mrs. Janie Thelma Brown-Dupree’s story, like the turning leaves through the seasons, reflects a beautiful journey of grace, love, and faith—a life well lived. She is lovingly survived by her children, Jeannette Davies of the home and Mattie (Andrew Sr.) Smith of Columbus, GA; her 8 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; and her beloved siblings: 1 sister Allean Brown of Raleigh, NC; 3 brothers and their children, Cal Jr (Mary) Dupree, Charles (Helen) Dupree; and David Sr. (Sarah) Dupree of Blenheim, SC. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, as well as two brothers-in-law, Nebraska Morrison of South Carolina and James Witherspoon of Baltimore, MD. She rests in sacred peace at Cedar Fall Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Bennettsville, SC, embraced by the love of the Lord until the resurrection dawns and the reunion is fulfilled. Truly, hers was a life well lived.
