Ms. Estelle Cooper Ford

Estelle Cooper Ford had a rich and diverse life filled with various experiences and contributions. She was born on Saturday, February 19, 1938, in Washington, DC, to her parents Edward Cooper and Eileen (Sis) Redd. She passed away, leaving behind a loving family to mourn her. Estelle was known for her strength, kindness, and willingness to help others. She was known for giving advice and being a good listener, always ready to lend a helping hand. In terms of her education, Estelle attended school in Washington, DC and also pursued some college courses to further her knowledge. Her career included working as a chef for the Marriott Corporation from 1958 to 1967. In 1967, she joined the U.S. Postal Service and went on to retire as a Postal Manager in 1992. After her retirement from the Postal Service, she worked as a tax professional for H&R Block from 1993 until April 2008. She excelled in her role and was named a Senior Tax Advisor in 2002. Estelle's dedication to education didn't stop with her own career. She served as a substitute teacher from 1993 through 2004, and in 2003, she had her own 1st-grade class. Her commitment to education extended beyond her professional life. Estelle was also a member of Peace Baptist Church since October 1994, where she actively participated in the choir. Her pastor referred to her as "Ms. Testimony," reflecting her involvement and contributions to the church community. Estelle was a sports enthusiast. She was a dedicated Washington Commanders fan. You could find her with her favorite team's shirt and hat on watching the game cheering the team on. Despite her busy life, Estelle always made time for her family. She was affectionately known as "Esse" by her loved ones, and they marveled at her ability to keep up with everything. Her daughter Sandra attempted to keep up with her by suggesting a beeper but eventually settled for a cell phone. Estelle was known for her sincerity and humility but also her straightforwardness when the situation called for it. Estelle Cooper Ford is survived by her three children, Sandra Carter, Henry Carter, and Michelle Ford, as well as her two grandsons, Brian F. Greene Jr. (and his wife Toccaro) and Michael Whitley. She is also survived by four sisters: Gloria Redd, Cecelia Johnson, Sally Travers, and Phyllis Montgomery. Estelle's life was marked by a strong work ethic, dedication to her family, and active involvement in her community and church. She will be remembered and missed by all those who knew her.
