Mr. Eric Tyrone Butler

Eric Tyrone Butler was born on September 21, 1958, in Cheverly, MD to William I. and Christine A. (Logan) Butler who both preceded him in death. He was affectionately known by his family as Rickey. Eric was the youngest of William and Christine’s seven children. He peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, January 18, 2023. Eric grew up in Fairmount Heights, MD where he met lifelong, cherished friends Michael Buckner, Shamrock Morrison and Paul Nichols just to name a few. He was educated in the Prince George’s County Public Schools where he graduated from Fairmont Heights High School. There, Eric excelled on the varsity basketball and football teams. Prince Georges Public School was also where he discovered his love of music by starting a band in elementary school. After graduation, Eric enlisted in the U.S. Army where he was later honorably discharged. He would then embark on his career as a Building Engineer/Service Manager for several property management companies throughout the DMV. Eric also realized that he was a natural born entrepreneur as was evident when he started small businesses such as restaurants, a club and car detailing service just to name a few. Eric had many hobbies. He loved to get up early on the weekends, jump in his car and hit his favorite fishing spot, Piney Point. Eric was a consummate chef. This allowed him to try new recipes and feed and spend time with his family. Anyone who knew him also knew that Eric had a love for cars…especially Dodge. He was a diehard MOPAR man as he would put it. He enjoyed taking rode trips where he would be found racing other cars. And don’t let a Mustang come up next to him! Oh boy, now that was a race!! None of his hobbies could top Eric’s love of music. He formed and played in several bands that performed throughout the DMV. When a family member needed a DJ for a party, they knew that they could always count on DJ Last Minute to get the job done. His love for music only rivaled his love for the Washington Redskins (now the Commanders). Go Skins!! Eric’s first union produced three children; Derrick, Darrian and Erica Butler. They were his pride and joy. The three of them gave Eric one of his greatest joys that of a grandfather and great grandfather. He loved spending time with his grandkids showing them how to work on cars, cook and fish. Later in life, he would meet and marry Karshia Farrow-Butler whom he adored and shared the last eleven years with. Their time together was spent taking spontaneous trips, going to concerts, attending sporting events and going to the movies just to name a few. Karshia would often drag Eric with her while antiquing only for the roles to become reversed. As he transitioned from this life into God’s arms, he leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Karshia Farrow-Butler; three children: Derrick, Darrien and Erica Butler; eleven grandchildren; D’Montray Haskins, Montel Herring, Derrick Spaulding, Aliyah Everett and Errick Butler; DeMari, Malik, Makhi, Demetris, Demarrez and Malia Butler; three great grandchildren; D’Kari, Damir and Kaiden; two step children, Calvin (Ashley) Hunter and Asiana McKinney; two step grandchildren; Madison and Meghan Hunter; preceded in death by his sister Joyce Wall and brothers William (Effie) and Donnell (Wanda) Butler; three sisters: Velma Butler, Rena Campbell and Terri (Earl) James; two uncles; Willie (Jingles) Logan and Maurice (Patricia) Logan; mother-in-law, Harriet Farrow; step mother-in-law, Lenora Simpson; three sisters-in-law Robin Horton, Rayvenia Farrow and Mercedes (Jerome) Kearney; three brothers-in-law, Antwan Farrow, Robert and Everett Simpson; countless nieces, nephews, other loving family members and a host of friends.
