Doris Cecelia Jeffries

On August 30, 2016, our beloved Doris transitioned from this earthly life to one of everlasting tranquility and peace, to be with her Heavenly Father. Doris C. Jeffries was 89 years of age when she departed her God-given life at approximately 10:30 p.m. in her home, a very special place that brought her an abundance of blissful memories that were shared by her family and friends. Doris delighted in her lovely home and wanted nothing more but to spend her days there. With her loving daughter, Sandra, by her side, Doris peacefully slipped away when God called her home to be with Him. Doris was born in Washington, D.C. on July 3, 1927, to Frederick L. and Beatrice C. Freeman. She graduated from Cardozo High School (formerly Cardozo Business) located in NW, Washington, D.C. As a devout Catholic, Doris attended Mass faithfully at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church together with her two sisters. Doris lived an exemplary life and momentous life as a mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, aunt and friend. During her 35 years of combined Federal government service, she thrived at the Navy Department (Bureau of Personnel), the U.S. Air Force, and later at the Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) notably progressing through various managerial positions before her retirement in 1996. Doris had a unique passion for numbers and accounting and decided to team up with her son-in-law and daughter in their Real Estate Appraisal Firm (Larry Rushing, Real Estate Appraisers). She remained there and served with a fine distinction for five memorable years until her health would no longer allow her to work. Doris found great contentment and relaxation planting and nurturing her beautiful flowers As for her heart, it was always glad just knowing that the family that she cherished so much and lifelong friends were only a phone call away. Doris was preceded in death by her husband Melvin A. Jeffries, and her sister, Althea Finney; and leaves to mourn, two devoted daughters, Sandra (Sandi) Dunmore and Angela Dunmore-Rushing; one son-in-law, Larry Rushing; one sister, Audrey Owens; two grandchildren, Chinyere and Dalmar Rushing; eight great-grandchildren, David, Vellon, McCaskil, Anaya, Kareema, Khalil, Balogun, and Little Dalmar; one niece, Audrey; five nephews, Leonard, Tyrone, Calvin, Lynwood, and Albert; a former husband George P. Dunmore, and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Family will receive friends on Friday, September 9, 2016 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church 2020 St. Joseph's Drive, Upper Marlboro, MD 20774 visitation 10 am until time of service 11 am. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery
