Ms. Doris Veronica Dent

Doris Veronica Jones Dent was born on Tuesday, April 1, 1947, in Washington D.C. to the late Beverly F. Jones, Jr. and Mildred B. Jones. She was the youngest and last survivor of six children, three brothers and two sisters - Maj. (ret.) Alphonso (Muriel), Maj. (ret.) Aloysius, (Elisabeth), Beulah (Norman, deceased), Fredia (Robert, deceased) and Robert Anthony. She attended elementary and high schoo l in Washington, D.C. and graduated from Eastern High School in 1965 where she was a majorette. In January 1971, Doris married the late MSGT (ret.) Joseph Paul Dent, Sr. She was the proud mother of three children, Jaime (Lavon), Joseph and Jason (Raquel) and devoted grandmother to Joseph III, Jakob, Jadzia and Jessica. She was blessed to be great-grandmother to Janaii, Tori, and Lily. Doris will forever be an angel great - grandmother to Jarai, who was born the same day she was called home. Doris started her career at DC Transit, more commonly known as Metro. She then moved on to B'nai B'rith Women, now known as B'nai B'rith International, where she worked for 17 years; first in data entry and then transferred to Member Services where she was eventually promoted to Director. While there, one of her many responsibilities included travel, and she dealt with her fear of flying which allowed her the opportunity to visit several family members all over the country. Doris was a voracious reader, her Kindle could be found by her side, always. She was also a fiercely competitive game player, loving all kinds of card and board games. Doris was a devotee of TV game shows and routinely watched Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Password, Press Your Luck and 25 Words or Less just to name a few. She was a fanatical sports lover who was passionate about all D.C. teams - Redskins (she would not call them by the team's current name), Capitals, Nationals, Wizards and Defenders. Doris was equally knowledgeable about all sports including Tennis, the Olympics, and even UFC. Whether vacationing with her husband, girlfriends, or other family members, she enjoyed regular trips to Las Vegas, Atlantic City and each of the local casinos where she was known to have "the touch", often leaving with more money than she brought to spend. Doris leaves to mourn her - three children, four grandchildren, four greatgrandchildren, five sisters-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews, scores of other family and a host of friends and neighbors, many of whom over the years became cherished parts of the extended family. On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, Doris Veronica Jones Dent entered into eternal rest.
