David Young

David McKinley Young, ACSW-LCSW, 78 a longtime resident of Maryland, departed this life Sunday, September 17th, 2017, at his residence in White Plains, Maryland. Mr. Young was born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania on September 23rd 1938 to John Young, Sr. and Dorothy Shackelford Thomas. He attended Eastern High School in Washington, D.C. Successfully earned his Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Degree from Bowie State University in 1972 and his Master of Social Work (MSW) Degree from Howard University in 1973. Throughout his life, he was an Inspirational brother to his siblings Reverend Dr. John Young and Barber Leach. A humorous father to his daughter's: Late Kim Mitchell, Glynis Young, and Wendy Young. Dear Grandfather to his grandchildren late Wayne Young, Sr., Tina Marie Carmona, Michael Mitchell, Jr., and Carmen Marie Mitchell. Great Grandfather to: Wayne Young, Jr., Endyah Young, Desmond Young, Julius Carmona, and Juliana Marie Carmona. Wonderful Brother- In Law to Reverend Dr. Ellen Young and late Preston Leach. Generous uncle to nieces: Christina Leach-Rampersad, Erica Leach-Baker, Deborah Brown, Sherry Hall-Walker, Cynthia Hall, and nephew Dwayne Hall. He is survived by a host of cousins, other loving relatives and friends. Mr. Young was a strong believer in God and the Savior Jesus Christ. He was a very private person, United States Air Force Veteran, Accredited Licensed Social Worker at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Washington, D.C. , Retired Department of Health of Human Services Government Employee, Reputable and Accomplished Realtor & Insurance Agent, Dedicated Philanthropist, Affluent Entrepreneur, Political & Community Activist, World Traveler, Music Enthusiasts, Bibliophile, Avid- Golfer, Bowler, Tennis Player, Bird-Watcher, and profusely loved his dog Lucky. Additionally, he was a member of & held leadership positions in several professional organizations including but not limited to: The Howard University Alumni Association, Lifetime Member of Bowie State Alumni Association, The Academy of Certified Social Workers (ACSW), The National Association of Social Workers (NASW), The National Association of Realtors (NAR), United States Olympic Committee, Citizens Police Academy (CPA), United States Golf Association (USGA), Life Member of PGA TOUR Partners Club, Kennedy Center, National Parks Foundation (NPF), Sierra Club Wilderness Guardian, Arbor Day, The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), National Audubon Society, The National Wildlife Federation, The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, The Disabled American Veterans (DAV), and The Potomac Conservancy.
