Ms Daria Lynn Gordon

Daria Lynn Gordon was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. On July 28, 2023, she passed away suddenly but peacefully in her home at the age of 67. She was affectionately known as “Mikey” by her loved ones. Daria was born on February 15, 1956 and grew up in Washington, D.C. She attended Bethlehem Baptist Church and was baptized there at a very early age. She attended DC public schools including Garfield Elementary and John Philip Sousa Junior High School. She also attended Palmer Memorial Institute in North Carolina. In her early 20’s, Daria explored music and taught herself to play the guitar; it was the “disco era” and she was filled with the joys of that time. She loved to dance and she loved 70s music, especially Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Prince, The Isley Brothers, and the Temptations. Her fashion statements included a super sized and always well groomed afro, miniskirts with disco boots to the knee, and bell bottom jeans. Later, she enjoyed reading books by her favorite author Stephen King and others. Daria was a nature lover; She loved dogs, and her favorite hobbies included taking care of her various animals, plants, and fish. In her early career, she worked as a store manager at a men’s shoe store in Landover mall located in Landover, MD and also as a security guard for Jenkins security. Daria also worked as a console traffic operator at George Washington University (GWU), as an environmental services aid at Virginia Hospital Center and then lastly as a receptionist before she retired in 2022. Daria was the mother of seven children and always worked hard to provide for them, of whom she was very proud. She was a protector, loving, and generous soul. She loved to laugh, often playing practical jokes on friends and family. Daria loved nice things and had a unique personal style. She was very patient and compassionate and had a comforting and nurturing spirit. Daria was very supportive and saw the positive side of life regardless of the circumstances. Her beautiful smile would light up any room. She is sorely missed by her children, but her heartfelt love will always be remembered. The funeral service will be held at Trinity A.M.E.
