Mr. Daren Matthew Henry

Daren Matthew Henry was born on July 1, 1965, in Washington, D.C., to the late Thelma Octavia Perkins & Walter Robert Henry, Jr. Daren went home to be with the Lord on July 17, 2025. Daren was reared in the District of Columbia and attended DC public schools. His family home was on Q Street where he had a lot of joyful memories. Daren graduated from Dunbar High School in 1983 and later earned a trade school certificate in Drafting. Daren loved his family and had a special love for his older sister, Sharon, who played the motherly role in her brothers' lives. Daren had two children, Mandissa and Mason from a previous relationship. Daren enjoyed working in Office Services for the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC). For 14 years, he was very dedicated to his work. There, he would meet his future wife, Sherese Ellis. Their favorite lunch dates were at Red Mei, Austin Grill, King Street Blues and most favorite, Bittersweet. (Daren loved Bittersweet's carrot cake cupcake!) On January 22, 2010, he and Sherese Ellis married. They had two children, Kendall and Kennedy. From this union, Daren gained a stepdaughter, Kyertsten, whom he loved as his own. He adored all his children and enjoyed giving them wise advice. He stood very firm with his beliefs and expectations for them. Daren enjoyed watching TV with his family, going to the movies, collecting comic books, drawing, and watching Anime. Daren also loved collecting Asian artifacts as well as unique jewelry. Daren loved good cooking and loved when Sherese would "make his belly happy." Throughout Daren's battle with cancer, Sylvia Ellis (mother-in-law) and Denise Hill cared for him being very dedicated to assisting with Daren's needs as much as possible. Daren was extraordinarily strong. With a humble spirit, he fought tooth and nails to the end. Sherese: "I admired his efforts. He was so grateful for all that anyone did for him. That is what truly warmed my heart about him. Daren and I would often reflect on the times when the kids were babies. I will truly miss those talks and laughter. I will miss his sarcastic remarks and his jokes." Daren was preceded in death by his parents: Thelma Octavia Perkins and Walter Robert Henry, Jr., and his sister, Sharon Smith. He leaves to cherish his memory his stepmother: Veronica Henry, his mother-in-law: Sylvia Ellis, his wife: Sherese Renee Henry; five children: Mandissa Henry-Hill, Mason Hill- Henry, Kyersten Ellis-Kemp "stepdaughter", Kendall Henry, and Kennedy Henry; five grandchildren: Diamond Henry, Miymiy Henry, Kairo Henry, Averii Henry, and Greycen Barnes; three siblings: Dean Blackstone, Derek Perkins, Walter Henry III; one brother-in-law: Francis Smith; one uncle: John Henry; one aunt: Ellen Lee; and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins. Daren's legacy will live on through the lives he touched and the compassion he embodied. May is memory be a blessing, and may he rest in eternal peace
