Charles Eugene Spruell

Charles Eugene Spruell was born in the town of Bethel, NC on April 11, 1952. He was the fourth of seven children born to the late Thurston Spruell Sr. and Luzenia Powell. He was preceded in death by three of his siblings Betty Jean, Alexander, and Thomas. After leaving North Carolina he migrated to the DC Metropolitan area. There he had a brief stent at the Federal Communication Commision (FCC). Afterwards he embarked on a lengthy career with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). While there he held several positions including bus driver, train operator, and station manager. Charles retired from WMATA in the year 2010 after 35 years of service. Charles was a well-rounded and athletic man who loved discussing various topics with his family and friends. He was passionate about everything from sports to politics. He was educated in the Pitt County School System. While in high school Charles was known as the best player (#5) on the basketball team. In recent years he would talk for hours on the phone about different sporting events, with his brothers and friends. Charles had a special bond with his brothers Thurston, Jerry, and Larry that he treasured dearly. Charles loved the Lord. He was a faithful and lifelong member of Willing Heart Cathedral; where he joined in 1989, where his dedication was evident in every aspect of his involvement. Charle's presence will be dearly missed by his family and friends, who will forever remember his warmth, love of family, and ability to bring joy and insight into every conversation. He leaves to cherish his beloved wife of 33 years Linda Spruell, four sons Darryl Workcuff (Nearia), Charles Lynch, David Workcuff (Danielle), and Durrell Cooper. Three daughters Crystal Armstrong (Robbin), Brittny Lynch, and Latrice Drummond. Twelve grandchildren Tess (Nick), Briana (Clarke), Deyonna , Darryl Jr. (Cali), Rex, Demia, Domonique, Destiny, Angelina, David Jr., Charlieze, and Quinton. Two great grand children Dorothy and Aven. Three brothers Thurston Spruell Jr. (Jo Ann), Jerry Spruell ( Faye), and Larry Spruell (Ellen), and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
