Camille Marie Holman

Camilie Marie Holman was born on February 7, 1987, at Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C. She was the first of two children born to Kerry "Kwasi" Holman and Lisa Bass Holman (now Cooper) of Washington, D.C. Camille, affectionately known as "Binky" by family until her pre-teen years, was always known for having a joyful spirit. Camille attended Margaret M. Amidon Elementary School and Jefferson Junior High School, where she met life-long friends and participated in a variety of activities - from Girl Scouts and the Best Friends Program to karate, the Drill Team and Dramatic Arts. Overtime, she grew from being too shy to sell lemonade at a lemonade stand into a beautiful social butterfly. She was academically gifted, tracking with the top scholars in her grade while simultaneously becoming known for her infectious energy, bubbly giggle, and infectious personality. She found great joy in finding new friendships and building community - from school to church and beyond. The love and care she brought to community continued throughout high school as Camille attended Theodore Roosevelt Senior High School and Cesar Chavez Public Charter High School for Public Policy in Northwest Washington. DC. Upon being diagnosed with a mental health condition at 17, she later worked hard to earn her GED in 2006 and a certificate in physical therapy aide from Penn Foster Academy as well as an esthetician certificate from a trade school in Virginia. After graduation, Camille explored a wide variety of career paths, including work in the beauty industry and the medical field - always, choosing people-focused professions that helped people feel good - mentally or physically - with an intention to spark joy. Camille's zest for life made her a natural born leader. Her creativity and vast imagination left room for endless mini adventures with family and friends. Her genuine care for others manifested each day through her deep commitment to finding magical moments in the mundane minutes of everyday life. She found great joy in music, often dancing like no one's watching (and getting people to join in!) She enjoyed traveling - including international trips to Jamaica and Mexico. She also looked forward to taking trips with friends and family to destinations in Delaware, Virginia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. Camille always held a deep appreciation for art and maintained a life-long love for learning. She never had any shortage of curiosity and could often be found reading about topics, ranging from astrology to pharmacology. She never forgot a birthday and always played the role of the biggest cheerleader for the ones she loved - including her family - chosen family included. She identified as a humanitarian, often advocating for those in need to amplify their voices. This included deep advocacy in and around mental health parity, resources, and innovations. Camille transitioned on Sunday, February 22, 2026, in Shady Grove Adventist Behavioral Health Center, in Gaithersburg, Maryland, just two weeks after her 39th birthday. She is proceeded in death by her grandparents (Mary Bass Rogers, Lovell Rogers, Robert H. Bass, Mariella Ama Holman, and Moses Carl Holman); and her beloved younger brother, Justin Carl Holman. She leaves to mourn her parents Kwasi Holman, Lisa Bass Cooper (Matt) aunts and uncles Kinshasa "Auntie Shash" Holman Conwill, Kwame Holman (Marilyn), Kenneth H. Bass (Farida)and Tsooreyah Jacobs (Zockriel); her sister, Monifa Holman, of Dallas, Georgia, step-siblings, Franklin Nash, Jr., Megan, Kelsey and Matthew S. Cooper, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and chosen family (friends). She will forever be missed. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Camille's life on February 28, 2026. A Wake will be held at 10:00 a.m., followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church located at 555 Water Street S.W., Washington, D.C 20024.
