Calvin C Seldon, Sr

Calvin Carol Seldon Sr., affectionately known as "Cal" was born on January 29, 1935, to William and Carceda Seldon in Fairmount Heights, MD. He was the youngest son born to this union. Calvin quietly transitioned to his eternal home on November 2, 2022, at his residence in Springdale, MD. Calvin spent his early youth residing in Fairmount Heights alongside his family. Calvin graduated from Fairmont heights High School in 1953. During his youth Calvin enjoyed baseball,basketball, fishing and was a member of the gospel singing group "The Faithful Gospel Singers" with two of his brothers .Calvin developed early skills as a young carpenter which were later demonstrated during construction of his first home in Fairmont Heights. Calvin was a devout Baptist and was baptized and received the Holy Spirit at a young age. He was a member of Sylvan Vista Baptist Church in Fairmont Heights under the direction of the late Reverend Arthur Luckett, Sr. After a courtship resulting from a family member introduction, Calvin entered holy matrimony with his beloved wife Beatrice Alexander on April 7, 1956. From this union three beautiful children were born: Calvin Jr, Barry, and Sonya. Calvin began his young adult career working in a local grocery store. He then transitioned to his longstanding employment with Giant Food Corporation. During his tenure with Giant Food, Calvin represented his coworkers serving as Shop Steward for Teamsters local 639. He was known to be a gifted negotiator and fierce protector of employee rights. Calvin served in this role for several decades up to his retirement in 1997, after 28 years of service. During his retirement, Calvin enjoyed fishing, television and playing video games. He was known to take no prisoners when challenging someone to a game of Madden Football on various gaming systems. Calvin was a diehard fan of the team formerly known as the Washington Redskins. He had a passion for delicious meals often prepared by his family. To say that he loved sweet treats was an understatement. Calvin was blessed to live a full and prosperous life. As his vocal skills diminished, his smile continued to validate how much he loved his family. A smile we will surely miss Calvin was preceded in death by his parents William and Carceda; siblings William, Barbara, Shirley, George (Doris), Gloria Johnson (Survie) Joyce Cowan(Leroy), Norris (Cordelia) and his son, Barry. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Beatrice; his children Calvin, Jr, Sonya Kennedy (Edward, Jr.) sisters: Joan Anderson (Fred), Marjorie Coleman, Paulette Gardner (William). He also leaves in his memory grandchildren; Tonishia, Andrea, Stephen, Crystal, Calvin III, Tiffany, Nadine, and Angelina, 5 great grandchildren and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
