In Loving Memory of Benjamin Earl Thomas Jr. Benjamin Earl Thomas Jr. was born on August 8, 1943, in Washington, D.C., to the late Benjamin E. Thomas Sr. and Delores Spriggs. He completed his high school education on the pride of Capitol Hill, Eastern Senior High School, a place he proudly called part of his foundation. After high school, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army, where he demonstrated the dedication, honor, and strength of character that would define his life. On September 7, 1963, he married the love of his life, Viola Thomas. From their marriage came three beloved daughters: Bennita Rollerson, Tyrita Thomas, and LaWanne Craig. Later in life, he welcomed another cherished daughter, Crystal Holt, completing a family that he loved deeply. Following his military service, Benjamin began a distinguished career with the Metropolitan Police Department, where he served as a Police Officer and Cellblock Technician. He later worked as a youth counselor in Virginia and held several other positions in law enforcement before retiring. Throughout his career, he remained committed to serving and protecting others, earning the respect of those who knew and worked alongside him. Benjamin had a larger-than-life personality and truly enjoyed life. He loved basketball, car racing, and spending time with family and friends. His corny jokes and infectious sense of humor brought smiles and laughter wherever he went. One of his favorite pastimes was playing the football pool. He created memories that his family and loved ones will cherish forever. Benjamin leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Viola Thomas; his daughters, Bennita, Tyrita, LaWanne, and Crystal; his stepmother, Odessa Thomas; his sister, Jackie Dance; his brothers, Wayne Thomas and Brian Thomas; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by his love and presence. On May 23, 2026, Benjamin peacefully departed this life, surrounded by the love of family and friends. He was a proud veteran, a respected member of his community, and a man who believed in laughter, camaraderie, and family. His kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we celebrate a life well lived and a legacy that will continue through the many lives he touched. His love, laughter, and strength will remain with us always, and his memory will forever be a source of comfort, inspiration, and pride. Forever Loved, Forever Remembered, Forever Missed.
