Mr. Antonio Terrell Abney

On Thursday July 2, 2026, Antonio Abney, also known as Tony, was called home to be with the Lord. Born on November 21, 1967, in Washington, D.C., to Gladys Abney ("Bootsy") and the late Robert Gardner ("Bobby"). Tony grew up in Washington, D.C., attending the DC public schools system graduating from Spingarn Senior High School in June 1986. Throughout his life, he was known for his loving spirit, courageous heart, and unwavering devotion to family and friends. A proud father of seven children and grandfather of seven grandchildren, he cherished every moment spent with those he loved. One of Tony's greatest trademarks was ending every phone conversation with the words, "I love you." Tony was preceded in death by his father, Robert Gardner, uncle, Don Abney and his beloved son, Saquan Abney. Tony lived life at maximum volume and with an even bigger heart. He approached each day as an opportunity to celebrate, creating a legacy filled with laughter, generosity, and unforgettable memories. To know Tony was to hear him coming. Convinced that he was deaf in one ear, he spoke, laughed, and cheered loudly enough to fill any room. His booming voice perfectly reflected his larger-than-life personality and his enthusiasm for living. He was truly the life of every gathering-always ready with a warm greeting, a helping hand, or a reason to celebrate. Beneath his lively and outgoing nature was a deeply compassionate man who would willingly give the shirt off his back to help someone in need. He cared fiercely for his family and friends, checking on loved ones, supporting those around him, and making sure no one ever felt forgotten or alone. Tony treasured the many friendships he built throughout his life. His friends became family, and he valued every gathering, every conversation, and every adventure they shared together. Above all, Tony's heart belonged to his fiancée, Carolyn. She was his partner, his source of joy, and the love of his life. Together they shared a bond filled with laughter, companionship, and countless treasured memories. Tony leaves to cherish his memory: His loving mother, Gladys Abney ("Bootsy"), His devoted fiancée, Carolyn Williams, His children: Donte Shields (Carman), Freddie Barnes, Antonio Abney Jr. ("Lil Tony"), Terrell Abney, Anthony Abney ("Lil Anthony"), Samyah Barnes (Stephen), His bonus-daughters: Kenya Jones, Sharnetta Jones, Alexus Jones, Emony Williams, His grandchildren: DeMonte Shields, Mikayla Shields, Skylar Williams, Sheldon Barnes, Sebastian Barnes, Akira Avila, His bonus-grandchild Jamiya Jones, His sisters: Denise Milligan and Lakesha Abney, His nephews Ray, Elias Milligan and Malik Abney, His niece Sade Reed, His great-nephew, Amir Abney, Hisgreat-niece, Nuri Thomas, His three amigos Uncle Von, Cousin Smiley, Cousin kim, His loving God-sister Celeste and a host of family members, and countless friends who will forever miss his roaring voice, infectious laughter, generous spirit, and unconditional love. Though Tony has departed from this earthly life, the memories he created and the love he shared will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
