THE LIFE OF ALDER LEE (RICHARDSON) BYRAMS On Thursday, June 25, 2026, at the age of 95, the Lord called home Alder Lee (Richardson) Byrams, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her life was a beautiful testimony of faith, strength, service, and love. Alder Lee Richardson was born on August 22, 1930, in Monroe, North Carolina, to the late Baxter Richardson and Savannah (Doster) Richardson. She was educated in the public schools of Union County, North Carolina. At the age of 14, Alder lovingly took on the role of caregiver for her father and younger siblings, showing early in life the devotion, responsibility, and strength that would define her journey. Alder met the love of her life, Jesse Edward Byrams, and on September 27th, 1959, they were united in marriage. Their union was blessed with two children: their son, the late Jesse Edward Byrams, Jr., and their daughter, Naomi Byrams Wright. Alder and Jesse shared 62 years of marriage until his passing. In 1959, at the age of 29, Alder relocated to Washington, D.C. She built a successful career as a custodian and chef, serving with dedication, pride, and a strong work ethic. Alder accepted the Lord at a very early age. As a child of God, she learned how to pray and understood the power of prayer. She was always willing to share her testimony and to display her deep faith and trust in God. Although she sometimes had a no-nonsense attitude and a disciplined manner, she maintained an unyielding and sacrificial love for her family. She was also a kind, devoted, and loyal friend to many. Throughout her life, Alder attended several churches in North Carolina and Washington, D.C., including the Greater New Hope Baptist Church and the New Macedonia Baptist Church. Her faith remained a guiding light, and her life reflected her trust in God. Today, we celebrate the remarkable life of a woman who blessed this world for 95 wonderful years. Alder was beautiful inside and out, and her presence left a lasting impression on everyone who was fortunate enough to know her. She had a heart as warm as her kitchen. Anyone who entered her home could count on being welcomed with love, laughter, and a delicious home-cooked meal. She found joy in feeding others and believed that no one should ever leave her home hungry. Her generosity knew no bounds, and she gave freely without expecting anything in return. Alder had a wonderful sense of humor and a playful spirit that never faded with age. She loved to laugh, make others smile, and bring joy to those around her. Her confidence, wit, and sparkle made her unforgettable. She was fiercely independent and lived life on her own terms. She stood firm in her beliefs, never backed down from a challenge, and faced life's obstacles with courage, strength, and determination. Her resilience inspired those around her and reminded them to stand tall, no matter what the circumstances. Above all, Alder was devoted to her family. She loved deeply, cared endlessly, and found her greatest happiness in the people she loved. Her wisdom, strength, kindness, and unconditional love became the foundation of generations who will continue to carry her legacy forward. Alder is survived by her daughter, Naomi Byrams Wright; her grandson, Jesse E. Byrams, III; five great-grandchildren, Jamari, Zaniah, Laila, JaKaylah Byrams, and Zamiyah Scott; one sister, Vangelan Helms of Monroe, North Carolina; her sister-in-law, Eunice Chambers Richardson of Wingate, North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, loved ones, and friends. Although our hearts are heavy with her passing, we are grateful for the countless memories she gave us. Her laughter, her love, her strength, and the warmth of her home will live on in each of us. A life so beautifully lived can never truly be forgotten. Alder will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
