Akida Hodari Jordan

In Swahili, Akida Hodari means " strong , successful Leader of Men" and this was a true description of Akida. He entered this earthly realm on August 3, 1975 at 1:14pm at Einstein Hospital in Philadelphia , PA. He was the only child of John Frank Jordan. Akida was a true Philadelphian and a die hard Eagles fan. As a child, Akida was happy and mischievous, full of fun and laughter. His Smile was infectious. Akida loved playing sports and could always be found at a rec center playing basketball. His warm demeanor , southern spirit and adoration good food can be attributed to the many summers he spent with his grandparents, Janie and L.C Evans in Concord , North Carolina. Akida enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. He attended Cedar Grove Christian Academy where he was very popular. At 6'6 he soon became a star basketball player and eventually became an all american Athlete. Akida began his college career at West Virginia State and then transferred to Livingstone College in Salisbury , North Carolina. A Third Generation Livingstonian, he immediately found a home and a new family on the " The Yard ". He was known for enjoying a great BBQ and his world famous banana pudding. Akida continued his basketball career and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sports Management. He was completing his Master of Science in Public Health at Capella University. Akida was able to turn his passion for Health into a career. He held several positions within the YMCA throughout North Carolina. He came to the Washington Metropolitan area through his work with the US Marine Corps and the City of Alexandria. Most Recently, Akida was the health and wellness manager for the Washington Metro Area Transit Authority (WMATA) One of his lifelong dreams was accomplished in the fall 2013 when he was initiated in to Tau Lambda Lambda chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity , Incorporated. He served as the chair of the Health Committee. Akida established the chapter's perseverance 5k walk/run which will continue in his Honor. He worked tirelessly to uphold Omega's Cardinal principles of manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance and Uplift. On June 30, 2017 Akida Jordan married the love of his life Nicole Greene in an intimate ceremony surrounded by his life and friends. On that day he promised to " Love, cover and protect her until her i breathe my last breathe" and Akida did just that. He affectionately called Nicole his "Perfection" and loved her proudly and boldly. Akida and Nicole were a perfect Match weathering life's storm together and nurturing their family in the ways of The Lord together. Akida's greatest joy was being being a father to " the girls". He was a devoted and protective dad who always worked tirelessly to be the first man they ever loved. Akida was actively involved in their lives and did everything with them. You could often find him playing games , watching cartoons, skating or eating pretzel bites in the mall with his "Beauties". Akida accepted Christ at an Early age and was baptized at Salem Baptist Church in Jenkintown, PA at the age of Six. He was a member of the Choir and Acolyte ministry. In 2016 , Akida became a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Community Church in Temple Hills , MD. He was was a man of Undeniable faith and loved his relationship with the Lord. Akida believed that God had a plan for his life that was beyond what he could imagine. For Akida , his job was to be a kingdom man who trusted God with his whole self. He would often say " faith is a verb , it is something you must do". When life challenges came his way, he stood on his faith and it filled him with an unquenchable fire deepening his spiritual walk with the Lord. Akida relished his relationship with the Lord eagerly shared his testimony through his smile, his energy and his giving heart. Akida departed this earthly life on Tuesday May 15, 2018 after a long battle with Leukemia. He was preceded in death by his Father John F. Jordan. He leaves to cherish his memory to his Devoted Wife, Nicole Greene Jordan , Daughters Kiya Jordan (20) Alexis Jordan(7) and her sister Chanelle Tabron(13) His Mother Alpha Jordan; brother Kevin McClain of Salisbury , NC; sister Natalie (Dennis) Rivers of Salisbury, NC and a host of friends and family.
