January 12, 1963 - October 12, 2021
Peter Emmanuel Monroe affectionately known as "Pete" was born on January 12 1963, the eighth child born to the late Henry and Elizabeth Monroe. He was born and raised in Washington, DC where he attended school in the District of Columbia Public School System. Upon Completion of his education, he entered in the work force. He was known to be skilled with his hands and worked in various capacities in construction, residential housing repairs and often worked with family members on large maintenance projects. He was always willing to give a hand and help out especially for the right price. Peter had a passion for family and having a good time. He enjoyed family dinners and events, music, dancing, spending time with his siblings and most of all his daughters Terrierica and Ebony. There was never a dull moment when you were around him. He was clam, cool and collected and always had one of his famous party shirts. He lived a well-rounded life filled with laughter, love and happiness. He always had a smile on his face and love in his heart. Even as he struggled with an illness in silence, he maintained his demeanor to ensure that the people around him did not stress or fret. Through trials and tribulations, successes and failures, he maintained a positive outlook on life until his final breath. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories for his loved ones to cherish. On October 11, 2021 Peter was called home to be with the Lord. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Elizabeth Monroe, his brother David Monroe, Willie Monroe and Henry Monroe, Jr.; he leaves to mourn his daughters Terrierica Leigh (Yusef) and Ebony Fox (Lashawna): longtime partner Shannon Brand; beloved siblings Ruby Norman, Walter "Tommy" Monroe, Elbert Leon Monroe, Sr. (Karen), Sarah Monroe and Patricia Richardson. He leaves behind two grandchildren: Hope and Trinity; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends to cherish his memories.
